The University of Montana, chartered in 1895, has promoted the study of Classics ever since. The original university faculty numbered five, one of whom was Father Aber, a classicist fondly remembered by many alumni for the traditionally festive Aber Day, which he instituted. Today, the Classics Section of the Department of World Languages and Cultures maintains four full time faculty members.In 1995, the Classics faculty introduced a Bachelor's degree option in Classical Civilization.
