Program Overview

The History major is designed to provide students with a broad, general knowledge of the political, social, and cultural history of a variety of geographical regions and time periods. Each student takes a well-rounded selection of courses in the history of America and other areas of the world. Included in this curriculum is HIS4835 Senior Seminar, a course whose purpose is to teach historical research and writing skills. The program functions as a terminal major or as preparation for graduate study, leading to career opportunities in historical research, law, the service professions, business, government, or the ministry. The degree is granted upon completion of credits specified on pages 47--48 (40 credits must be in 3000- or 4000-level courses).
