California Institute of TechnologyThe history and philosophy of science option (HPS) provides students the opportunity to explore the historical evolution of the sciences and the philosophical perspectives that inform them, as well as the dynamics between science, technology, and other human endeavors.
Common Application, Teacher evaluations, Secondary School Report, Academic transcripts, Test scores: TOEFL, SAT with Essay or ACT with Writing US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Extracurricular activities: Estimated extracurricular contribution: 15–25%. Caltech particularly values scientific curiosity, experimentation, and collaborative problem-solving. Research, mathematics, science competitions, engineering projects and independent technical work may be helpful. Creative activities and interests outside STEM can also demonstrate personality and balance.Profile Assessment: Undergraduate applicants interested in law may choose Pre-Law, Political Science, Economics, History, Philosophy, International Relations or another field. Debate, Model United Nations, mock trials, student government, journalism, advocacy, research and community service may demonstrate critical thinking and communication.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
