The Philosophy Department offers a general major which provides students with a background in the history of philosophy, e.g. Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Hume, as well as in values and logic related courses. Through lectures, seminars, tutorials, guided research, undergraduate and graduate colloquia, a student philosophy club, interdisciplinary and special studies programs, and visiting philosophers, a challenging and balanced context for philosophical development is provided for major and nonmajor alike.
Academic records, extra-curricular interests, 250-500 word personal essay and one teacher or counselor letter of recommendation, International Financial Statement, IELP, TOEFL (Internet-based test: 70, Paper-based test: 523), IELTS (6.0 band score) US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Undergraduate applicants interested in law may choose Pre-Law, Political Science, Economics, History, Philosophy, International Relations or another field. Debate, Model United Nations, mock trials, student government, journalism, advocacy, research and community service may demonstrate critical thinking and communication.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
