Journalism

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Stetson University

Program Overview

Our journalism program will prepare you to be an active participant in a changing media world where fundamentals matter as much as understanding how to use new technology. You'll create videos and podcasts, write stories and publish online magazines, but you'll also understand the basics that apply regardless of whether you're producing a video for Snapchat, writing for BuzzFeed, or reporting for the New York Times.Stetson University's journalism minor will allow you to learn and practice journalism in the classroom and in the real world, preparing you for whatever you want to do, whether it's in media or any other field. The journalism minor allows you to focus on your passions and choose journalism-related courses that interest you. Some of those courses come from departments and programs across the university, including Communication and Media Studies, Creative Arts, English, and the Sullivan Creative Writing Program. The minor begins with a required course that introduces the fundamentals of excellent, ethical journalism and concludes with the interactive studio class, where students collaborate and create a work of journalism while being coached by a faculty member and mentored by a working journalist.A minor in journalism pairs well with any major and offers a variety of courses that allow you to build on your passions with knowledge and experience. Courses are taught by Stetson faculty, including professional journalists who have decades of experience that ranges from reporting on wars in the Middle East to writing television criticism. Journalism electives offered recently include Magazine Writing, Opinion Writing, Digital Storytelling and International Journalism.
