Distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach, its attention to a range of visual media, and emphasis on cultural studies, visual ethnography, and media literacy, the curriculum is organized into the following three distinct but interrelated clusters:Film and visual media, which emphasizes media literacy, paying particular attention to questions of gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicityFilm, Literature, and culture, which focuses on comparisons and intersections among film and other arts and among different national culturesEthnography, documentary and visual culture, which provides in-depth coverage of the theories and methods that guide the production and analysis of ethnographic and documentary films and mediaStudents study with faculty from all departments in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. They can elect to receive either fine arts or humanities credit for any film and visual culture classes they take to satisfy College breadth requirements.
