The BA program focuses on face-to-face, interactive, community interpreting, and thus a dialogic approach to interpreting. Students apply for admission to the BA in Interpretation major as freshmen or after acceptance to Gallaudet University as a transfer student. The students may transfer their interpreting course(s) from another college if they have the grade of B or better, and approved by Gallaudet University Registrar Office
• Application • Unofficial High School Transcript • One written essay and one video essay in American Sign Language • A letter of recommendation from an academic teacher who teaches a core subject such as English, mathematics, or social studies • Audiogram • Certification of Finances form • Sponsor’s Affidavit of Support form
A score of 3 or higher on the ASL Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) to be accepted into the program
Academic Progression: MA Journalism, Communication US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Applicants are generally assessed on writing, communication, creativity and engagement with media or current affairs. Journalism, school publications, podcasting, filmmaking, photography, social-media projects, debate and communication campaigns may strengthen the profile. Some film or media programs may request a creative portfolio, writing sample or supplementary submission.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
