Dental Hygiene BS

4 Years Online Bachelors Program

Rutgers The State University of New Jersey New Brunswick

Program Overview

A transition from the Associate degree program to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program in Dental Hygiene is planned for implementation in January 2017. The degree program is sponsored by the School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) in collaboration with other New Jersey institutions as well as the Newark College of Arts and Sciences. The general education classes for this program are completed at the affiliate school. The 126-credit curriculum includes a broader range of general education, discipline-specific, and interdisciplinary education to meet the requirements for a B.S. degree. The Dental Hygiene program prepares individuals interested in providing preventive, educational and therapeutic services to the public. In order to expose students to the most modern equipment and advanced treatment techniques, the facilities of the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and the School of Health Related Professions-Scotch Plains Dental Suite are utilized. The program prepares students for the rigors of the profession by focusing on specific cognitive, motor, behavioral, and social skills that are critical success factors. In addition, there is a focus on board exam preparation, including the RDH (Registered Dental Hygienist). Successful completion of all the requirements will earn you a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Health Related Professions and affiliate school. The program is based in Scotch Plains with a clinical component.
