4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
We can learn a lot about ourselves from our genes—the color of our eyes, how tall we are, where our ancestors came from, and if we're at risk for certain diseases. Understanding the behavior of genes can improve our quality of life, and a degree in genetics can help prepare you for a career in research, nursing, medicine, biotechnology, genetic counseling, teaching, and more.
Your education will begin with classes taught by experts from schools across campus. In fact, more than 100 UAB faculty members from more than 15 departments in six schools participate in instruction related to genetics and genomics. That number is expected to rise with the recent establishment of the UAB-HudsonAlpha Center for Genomic Medicine, the UAB Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute, and the UAB Informatics Institute. To enhance your experience, we offer research opportunities as early as your sophomore year.
