Program Overview

The Mathematical Sciences degree is designed to serve students by sharpening their ability to reason logically, apply mathematics to problems which have real world implications, and communicate difficultideas.Too help students focus their learning, there are three emphases to choose from---Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. Each student is assigned a Mathematics Department mentor who can help them choose an emphasis that matches their goals and select elective coursework that will be complementary to their interests and plans. All students, and particularly those intending to go directly into the workforce, can increase their marketability and ability to apply mathematics by cultivating skills in computing and statistics as well as other quantitative disciplines.
