Program Overview

The Astronomy and Astrophysics major combines traditional coursework with hands-on experience in a curriculum that emphasizes practical application and academic excellence. Students have access to world-class research facilities and equipment, including remote access to telescopes around the world, access to the fully automated 1-meter telescope at the Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium, and use of Course on-campus supercomputer, Big Dawg. Many students present their research at the annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society. With paid departmental research opportunities and a high placement rate to research positions and internships, Butler's Astronomy and Astrophysics major helps students take their knowledge out of the classroom and into the world and beyond.
