Program Overview

Religious studies provides an ideal focus for a liberal arts education, which should be about opening one's mind to life's most profound questions. Long before most current subjects found their way into college and university programs, the academic study of religion served as a primary means of inquiry in literary, historical, philosophical and cultural studies, among others. It continues to be an exceptionally broad field of study, drawing together the widest possible range of concerns. Today, the study of religion is inseparably bound up with the study of aesthetics, literature, anthropology, sociology, politics, ethics and ecology. The study of religion holds a unique place in the academic world, both as an integrative, inherently interdisciplinary field in its own right and as a supportive mode of inquiry for a multitude of scholarly and professional studies.

Common Application or Eckerd College application, Personal Statement/Essay, 40 Application Fee, $40 Application Fee, Official High School Transcript and/or G.E.D. results, Certified, true copies of your secondary school records and corresponding national or provincial examination certificates, Admission Recommendation Letter, Proof of English proficiency: TOEFL iBT score of at least 79, computer based 123 or written 550; OR IELTS score with an overall band result of 6.5 or higher; OR Duolingo English Test score of at least 105; OR SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 550; OR ACT combined English and Reading of 43; OR Successful completion of ELS Intensive English Language Program-Level 112, requirement may also be satisfied by submitting one of the following 650-word graded essay, score of 4 or 5 on the College Board AP examination in English Language, 5 or higher on the IB , Higher Level, Predicted IB score of 32 or better
