Program Overview

This course is a survey course examining the concepts,attitudes, resources, functions and activities in the field of social work. It stresses values, ethics,definition and function of the social welfare system. It also presents the history of social welfare servicesin the United States, contemporary issues in social welfare, the impact of racism, oppression, poverty,discrimination and gender on such programs. Thirty (30) hours of volunteer agency service is required.Students apply for admission to the program during this class. The mission of the program is to educate and prepare competent, ethical and effective generalist practitioners for entry level practice with individuals, families, small groups, communities and organization. As the world and its citizens continue to evolve and diversify, so must our profession. The Social Work Program continually provides students with opportunities to learn and practice skills to effect change within their communities and the world.
