Program Overview

Microbiology includes the study of genetic engineering, cancer research, cellular mechanisms of infection, research in cell and molecular biology, and microbial ecology. Students apply technical approaches such as gene cloning, electron microscopy, and computer technology, to bacteria, viruses, algae, protozoa, fungi, and animal and plant cells. Graduates work in: hospital laboratories, the federal government (EPA, FDA, USDA) and industry. It is also an excellent foundation for graduate and professional schools, like dental, medical, veterinary and podiatry.
