Program Overview

A BS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is sponsored by the School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) in collaboration with Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, College of St. Elizabeth, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Felician College, Kean University, Georgian Court College, Monmouth University, New Jersey City University, Ramapo College, St. Peter's University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, or the Newark College of Arts and Sciences. Students complete a minimum of 90-96 credits of general education and prerequisite basic science coursework at one of the collaborating NJ colleges and universities. Students then enter a 45-credit professional coursework program in the Newark or Scotch Plains locations with some didactic components offered online. On- and off-campus practical experiences are incorporated to complement classroom instruction. Upon successful completion of the program students are awarded the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences jointly by the School of Health Related Professions and the collaborating institution. A second BS option in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is also available for candidates who have previously completed a BS degree from a regionally accredited US college or university. BS degrees from foreign educational institutions are not acceptable for these options. Students who have completed prerequisite basic science requirements and previously earned a degree from a foreign country can enter into a certificate program. The foreign degree must be evaluated as equivalent to a US baccalaureate degree. The primary location for the professional program in cytotechnology is Scotch Plains. The medical laboratory science program is offers at the Rutgers Health Sciences Campus at Newark and in Scotch Plains.
