Program Overview

NYU s Latino Studies Program is part of the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis, and is dedicated to the study of the study of the historical, social and cultural experience of Latino communities, with a strong interest in the transnational dimensions of U.S. Latino life. Several strengths give Latino Studies at NYU intellectual weight and a unique profile. Its core faculty includes distinguished specialists in all the major strands of US Latino history: Chicano (Saldana, Rosaldo),Puerto Rican (Davila, Flores) and Cuban (Dopico, Munoz ). Its faculty combines social science expertise, including sociology,anthropology and history, with strength in the arts, including music,literature, performance and film. In addition, the Latino Studies program draws on the expertise of affiliated faculty in the fields of law, education, performance studies, medicine, social work,linguistics and art history.
