The mission of the Speech Communication Department is to help students explore how and why people communicate, and the effects of communication on individuals, groups, organizations, and societies. The departmental curriculum examines communication theory, encourages practice and improvement of com- munication skills in a variety of contexts, and explores communication from a multicultural perspective. The department also sponsors the La Verne Debate Team which competes nationally and internationally. The team is open to students of all majors and colleges.
