Program Overview

The economics major in the School of Business provides a thorough understanding of economics and business behavior, prepares you for careers in business and government, and sets a foundation for graduate and professional studies. This curriculum will allow you to describe and identify fundamental economic concepts and the primary microeconomic and macroeconomic theories, and describe the financial system, institutions, markets, securities, global financial issues and strategies.Students supplement classroom knowledge with experiential learning through avenues such as the Roland George Investments Program, study abroad and internships. Some of the businesses at which economics students have interned include Volusia County government, the City of DeLand, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, KCM Asset Management, Brown & Brown and Siemens Corporation

Additional Information & Requirements

Each student must complete at least four writing or writing enhanced (WE) courses to complete the University Writing Requirement. At least two of these courses must be from General Education. Based upon Admissions application information, students may be placed in ENGL 100; ENGL 100 will count toward the Writing requirement if completed with a minimum grade of C. A single course may not be used to meet more than one of the General Education requirements, but a single course may count toward a General Education requirement and the student's major or minor requirements, as well as count as a Writing Enhanced course in the Writing requirement.
