Program Overview

The major in European Studies will provide you with the opportunity to study the historical transformations of Europe s peoples, politics, economies, cultures, and boundaries. You will be able to take an interdisciplinary approach, with courses from history, geography, social sciences, language, and literature departments. The program breaks with the traditional distinctions between the study of eastern and western Europe, enabling you to explore the broader Europe and its role in the global context. While the focus of the program is on modern (post-1700) Europe, you may choose to develop a concentration in earlier periods of European history.
