University of North Carolina Greensboro

Program Overview

The Program in Women s and Gender Studies (WGS) offers courses by resident faculty as well as courses taught by faculty throughout the university. WGS majors and minors receive an interdisciplinary liberal arts education in which they critically engage with theories, texts, media, and performance to become familiar with issues and ideas important to social institutions, histories, and contemporary lives. Specifically, WGS coursework has an interest in theorizing categories of women and gender as they intersect with nation, sexuality, race, class, ethnicity, and ability. Discussion, writing and research, internships, and independent study are important aspects of WGS coursework.
