In pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, students develop an understanding of international political, economic, historical, and cultural questions from a variety of disciplines and perspectives. In choosing their courses, students are able to take advantage of this multi-disciplinary approach and develop their own interests within the broader field of international studies.
• Application • Secondary School Report and Official Transcripts • Supplemental Essay • Average GPA score of 3.8 out of 4.0 scale • Two Teacher Evaluations/Recommendation • Mid-Year Report / Transcript • SAT/ ACT (Recommended) • TOEFL iBT: A minimum of 100 total with preferred sub-scores of 26 (Reading), 26 (Listening), 22 (Writing), and 25 (Speaking) OR IELTS 7.0 overall with no less than 7.0 in each section US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Undergraduate applicants interested in law may choose Pre-Law, Political Science, Economics, History, Philosophy, International Relations or another field. Debate, Model United Nations, mock trials, student government, journalism, advocacy, research and community service may demonstrate critical thinking and communication.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school. Relevant APs can strengthen an application and may earn university credit, but are not compulsory unless the university or programme explicitly requires them.Extracurricular activities: Estimated extracurricular contribution: 20–25%. Johns Hopkins values curiosity, initiative, collaboration and engagement with meaningful problems. Research, public service, independent projects, and academic exploration can be valuable.
