Rather than focusing on individual people, sociology focuses on social interaction and patterns, as well as socialization with special attention to gender, sexuality, nationality, race, ethnicity and class. Sociology majors study the importance of culture, social roles, power, inequality, and social structures and consider the causes of and remedies for social problems.
