Jacksonville State UniversityThe Photography Concentration at JSU offers experiences for students in pursuit of fine art through the study of darkroom practices and alternate processes. Digital photography classes cover commercial and product photography as well as portrait photography with experience in our professional lighting lab.
The BFA with a concentration in photography prepares students to achieve their aspiration of using photography as their primary means of self-expression and as a path to a fulfilling livelihood whether our student’s goals include a continuation of study in a graduate program, commercial photography studio or within a larger firm, or a fine art studio practice.
Students may also follow their photographic interests to a successful career by way of self-expression, with or without any commercial interests. In this case, students obtain fine art skills in studio courses while developing their personal voice to create and market their own works of art.
US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Creative-field applicants may be assessed through academic preparation, creative ability, visual thinking and, where required, a portfolio. The portfolio may include finished work as well as sketches, experimentation, process development and written explanations. Architecture may value Mathematics, Physics, drawing and spatial thinking, while Art, Design and Fashion programs may place greater emphasis on originality, technical development and the creative process.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school. Relevant APs can strengthen an application and may earn university credit, but are not compulsory unless the university or programme explicitly requires them.Essays & recommendations: Personal essays and teacher/counselor recommendations give context to your achievements and help demonstrate fit with the program.Photographer
