Jacksonville State UniversityThe Department of Art and Design at JSU provides a comprehensive professional education in the study and practice of studio art, graphic design, photography, and art history. Our courses are designed to increase the student’s understanding of the visual arts, and to aid in the development of the student’s creative abilities. We prepare our graduates to enter the workforce with a set of professional skills and a body of work that will make them marketable in their chosen disciplines. Majors in Studio Art may take courses in the following disciplines: ceramics, drawing, illustration, sculpture, book arts, graphic design, motion graphics, web design, painting, multimedia arts, photography, and printmaking.
Career options for art students are abundant and more popular than ever. Our visually rich and technology driven culture has created a demand for visual content creators. JSU's Department of Art and Design provides an education that prepares students to pursue a number of opportunities available for the modern-day visual artist.
US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Creative-field applicants may be assessed through academic preparation, creative ability, visual thinking and, where required, a portfolio. The portfolio may include finished work as well as sketches, experimentation, process development and written explanations. Architecture may value Mathematics, Physics, drawing and spatial thinking, while Art, Design and Fashion programs may place greater emphasis on originality, technical development and the creative process.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school. Relevant APs can strengthen an application and may earn university credit, but are not compulsory unless the university or programme explicitly requires them.Essays & recommendations: Personal essays and teacher/counselor recommendations give context to your achievements and help demonstrate fit with the program.Advertising Designer
