BFA Art or Visual Arts in Fine Arts

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Rutgers University Newark

Program Overview

The B.F.A. in Visual Arts major (with specializations in Fine Arts and Graphic Design) is a professional degree program that provides students with a multidisciplinary approach to the visual arts. It offers practical, experimental, and theoretical course work as well as the technical skills necessary for careers in art and design. The program consists of 29 courses earning 87 credits. It includes a large liberal arts component that adds to the development of personal expression. Work starts with the foundation courses, and then continues to advanced studio work, where students can pursue their goals and specialize in either fine arts or graphic design. During the senior year, art and design students produce work that is shown in an exhibition at the Paul Robeson Gallery and that also forms the portfolio for admission to graduate school or for entry into the professional world.
