Being a great artist isn’t all about skills in the studio! Your four-year academic experience will strengthen and refine your skills in communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. At graduation with a major in art you will be prepared to:
Design and create a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional compositions that demonstrate an understanding of the visual elements and principles of design;
Analyze and explain both the visual elements and the contexts surrounding artwork from diverse cultural contexts, historical periods, and aesthetic traditions; and
Engage with diverse perspectives and experiences through artworks and demonstrate an understanding of how art reflects and influences social, political, and cultural contexts.
US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Creative-field applicants may be assessed through academic preparation, creative ability, visual thinking and, where required, a portfolio. The portfolio may include finished work as well as sketches, experimentation, process development and written explanations. Architecture may value Mathematics, Physics, drawing and spatial thinking, while Art, Design and Fashion programs may place greater emphasis on originality, technical development and the creative process.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
