Program Overview

The Visual Arts Department at Bowdoin offers studio courses across a range of media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, and video.

A variety of 1000-level courses provide entry points into the department. From there, intermediate, advanced, and thematic courses allow students to develop perceptual, creative, and critical abilities in visual expression.

Along with a strong suite of studio courses, students gain valuable experience through exhibitions, guest lectures, study abroad, and fellowships. Unique opportunities to engage with a breadth of visiting artists adds additional depth to the program and fuels creativity among our students.
