The Faculty of Education has a longstanding national reputation for providing high-calibre initial teacher training with over 20 Secondary specialisms available. We have a well established partnership with over 800 secondary schools and colleges across the North West region and beyond. Computing is a national shortage subject, meaning successful trainees are highly employable. These routes will equip you with the skills and experience to teach at GCSE and A/AS levels, and vocational qualifications in both Computer Science and ICT. Subject to confirmation of DfE funding, they usually run free pre-entry SKE and booster courses for national priority subjects, including Computing. These will be identified at interview for applicants who need support in some areas and confirmed with a PGCE place offer.
You will normally have a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree awarded by a UK university, or an equivalent higher education qualification. Your degree needs to support the subject knowledge requirements of the national curriculum for computing. GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics, Experience in educational settings, Interview and personal Statement. A Disclosure and Barring Service Check and DfE Fitness to Teach test are also required. IELTS Band 7 with no less than 6.0 in any element.
