University of WolverhamptonDesign and Technology covers a number of subject specialisms and encompasses the teaching of designing, making, and associated evaluative skills, as well as developing technical knowledge. It involves working with a range of materials and processes including resistant materials, systems and control, CAD/CAM, textiles, food technology, and hospitality. You would be expected to specialise in one of these areas and develop skills in a range of the others. As a trainee you will learn how to teach design technology to pupils in the 11–16 age range within the secondary age phase, with additional primary and post-16 enhancements. You will learn how to develop skills, knowledge and understanding for teaching design technology through a combination of university-led and school-led training.Our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary Education provides a high standard of training for those preparing to take up a teaching post in the secondary school sector. The course complies with the statutory guidance from the Department for Education for Initial Teacher Training courses.
You will need an enthusiasm for design technology and be committed to developing the range, breadth and variety of design technology education in schools. You will have a high level of confidence in one or more of the following areas of design technology; engineering, 3D design, electronic engineering, product design, food technology or textiles with a desire to pass on your enthusiasm to learners of all abilities. Above all, you will need a real commitment to the education of young people. Also you will need: To hold a first degree of a United Kingdom higher education institution or equivalent qualification. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health Check, Interview, IELTS 6.5 (min 6.0 in all components)
