The Faculty of Education has a longstanding national reputation for providing high-calibre initial teacher training with over 20 Secondary specialisms available. We have a well established partnership with over 800 secondary schools and colleges across the North West region and beyond. The PGCE Physics with Mathematics is aimed at students who show an aptitude in both subjects and who wish to combine the skills of two shortage areas. On completion of this PGCE trainees will be able to teach Physics 11-19 and Mathematics to at least KS3. They particularly welcome applicants from a variety of science, engineering as well as physics backgrounds who feel that they have the skills to inspire young people and teach successfully in a very important area of the curriculum.
You will normally have a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree awarded by a UK university, or an equivalent higher education qualification. Your degree needs to support the subject knowledge requirements of the national curriculum for physics and mathematics. For exceptional candidates, particularly those with substantial relevant work experience in schools or relevant occupations, we will consider applications from those who hold a 3rd class degree. You will also need GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English language and mathematics.Successful candidates will demonstrate a good understanding of teaching and learning within a secondary school setting. IELTS Band 7 with no less than 6.0 in any element. A Disclosure and Barring Service Check and DfE Fitness to Teach test are also required. Personal Statement and Interview
