The aim of this secondary education Dance course is to develop thoughtful teachers who can respond effectively to the learning needs of young people in school by providing a balanced dance and physical education programme. We also want to inspire a generation to become physically literate and active by providing well prepared, high-quality dance experiences for all students. As a trainee you will learn how to teach dance to pupils in the 11–16 age – range within the secondary age phase, with additional primary and post-16 enhancements. You will learn how to develop skills, knowledge and understanding for teaching dance through a combination of university-led and school-led training. Our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary Education provides a high standard of training for those preparing to take up a teaching post in the secondary school sector. The course complies with the statutory guidance from the Department for Education for initial teacher training courses.
You will need to possess a real interest and aptitude for dance and an ability to think creatively about presenting the subject to others. Candidates will be expected to have experience of teaching or leading dance activities and engage in enhancement areas such as gymnastics, swimming and athletics. Above all, you will need a real commitment to the education of young people and a desire to inspire a generation. Also you will need: To hold a first degree of a United Kingdom higher education institution or equivalent qualification. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health Check, Interview, IELTS 6.5 (min 6.0 in all components)
