Trauma Informed Practice Certificate Program

10 Weeks Online Certificate Program

Elizabethtown College

Program Overview

Children's exposure to trauma can have both a short- and long-term impact on relationships, self-regulation, learning, physical and emotional health, and well-being (National Child Traumatic Stress Network, 2018). It is estimated that two thirds of children in the U.S. experience at least one trauma while 11 % experience three or more (National Survey of Children's Health, 2016).Given the significant number of youth exposed to trauma and its far-reaching effects into adulthood, there has been a shift toward implementation of trauma-informed practices and the creation of trauma-sensitive systems of support across the fields of education, human services, and health services. This certificate program provides the requisite knowledge and competencies professionals must acquire to meet the needs of children who are exposed to trauma and facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration. This certificate program is designed for in-service teachers, health practitioners, and human service practitioners. The unique curricular design allows for specialization in one's field, as well as exposure to the nature of care and approaches in related disciplines.
