Emergency Medical Technician Basic

The Emergency Medical Technician (E M T) course offered in partnership with Northwest Emergency Medical Services prepares the student to provide prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of E M Ts, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting, and providing patient transportation.Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians cognitive exam and the Pennsylvania Department of Health psychomotor examinations necessary to be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician.This program is offered in a blended format and will require a combination of remote learning and in person learning at the training center located at 380 West Bainbridge Street, Elizabethtown. In person instruction is typically by scheduled appointment based upon student preference and instructor availability. Field clinical time is a component of this program and students can expect to spend 20 to 40 hours applying their knowledge alongside certified EMS professionals on an ambulance responding to 911 calls.
