Nursing Post-Master's FNP Certificate Program

The Post-Master's Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program, offered in partnership between the Nursing Department and the School of Extended and International Education (SEIE), is a two-year, 36-unit program designed for nurses who already hold a Master of Science in Nursing. It has an excellent reputation for graduating very qualified Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioners. The Program has been in existence for over 40 years. It was one of the first Nurse Practitioner Programs in the State of California that educated FNPs in a University setting.Our graduates practice in variety of settings, Counties, States and even overseas. Each year the program has an excellent applicant pool from which candidates are selected.The FNP Certificate Program operates as a cohort model, with everyone in the program moving through at the same speed. Certificate students are integrated into the SSU FNP Master's track to create more opportunities to interact with other students, but take fewer classes as they are given credit for their previous MS coursework.The majority of the coursework is web-based and students must be comfortable using a computer and the internet. Clinical preceptorships are conducted in each student's local community with oversight from an SSU clinical faculty member. However, students must come to the Sonoma State campus 8 or more times during the first semester and 3---4 times in subsequent semesters.
