Program Overview

The Bachelor of Construction Management Studies / Bachelor of Laws (Honours) combines professional legal education with practical construction management expertise, giving students a unique skill set that is highly valued across the building, infrastructure, property, and legal sectors. Curriculum Structure

Year 1

In the first year, students build a foundation in both law and construction management. They are introduced to key legal concepts through subjects such as Introduction to Law and Legal Analysis and Critique, while developing an understanding of the construction industry through studies in Construction Technology and Building Materials. This year focuses on developing analytical thinking, communication skills, and technical awareness.

Year 2

Students begin exploring how construction projects are planned, managed, and regulated. Subjects such as Property Law, Construction Economics, and Building Science help students understand the commercial, legal, and technical factors that influence modern construction projects. They also strengthen their legal reasoning and problem-solving abilities through core law units.

Year 3

The third year focuses on project delivery, contract administration, and legal frameworks governing the built environment. Students engage with areas such as Construction Project Management, Contracts, and Construction Law, learning how legal obligations and project management principles interact within construction projects. Practical industry applications become increasingly important throughout the year.

Year 4

Students develop advanced professional capabilities through subjects covering Evidence, Administrative Law, and Building Project Management. They further explore risk management, dispute resolution, and professional responsibilities while gaining experience in analysing complex legal and construction-related issues. Opportunities for work-integrated learning and industry engagement enhance career readiness.

Year 5

In the final year, students complete advanced law studies alongside honours-level legal research. Subjects may include Legal Internship, Access to Justice Clinic, or other professional experience units, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. The Honours component develops advanced research, critical analysis, and professional judgement skills that prepare graduates for leadership roles and postgraduate study.
