Criminology is the interdisciplinary study of crime, deviance, social control and the legal system. This major combines knowledge from criminology, policing, sociology, law and social policy to give you access to knowledge and information about contemporary criminological theory. Contemporary criminologists investigate a broad range of topics including justice, conflict, deviance, security, policing, drugs and violence. Key concerns include the nature of crime, how crime is defined, why crimes are committed and how society responds to criminal behaviour. You will learn about: how to apply social scientific models of criminology to issues of crime, policing, social control and law the operation of legal, policing and policy making institutions the historical, contemporary and future developments in criminological understanding
