Program Overview

In collaboration with Chichester College, we offer an innovative two-year Foundation Degree program that combines the strengths of both institutions. Chichester College is renowned for its excellent ISTD dance teacher training, while the University of Chichester's dance department has a longstanding reputation for its comprehensive curriculum.

This Foundation Degree is specifically designed to thoroughly prepare you for a successful and fulfilling career in the dance industry, whether you aspire to be a performer, choreographer, community dance practitioner, or an independent dance teacher.

Benefitting from the expertise of a highly qualified teaching team, you will receive instruction in a supportive and nurturing environment. This will allow you to expand your knowledge of dance, enhance your practical skills in technique, performance, and choreography, and ultimately obtain the internationally recognized ISTD Diploma in Dance Education.

Additional Information & Requirements

To be eligible for this course, you must be 18 years old or above and have prior experience in dance up to an Intermediate level. If you aspire to work in the performing arts industry as a dancer, choreographer, community dance practitioner, or an independent dance teacher, this course will be beneficial for you. The following requirements must be met: Possession of ISTD Intermediate qualification in the genres relevant to the DDE (or an equivalent qualification that includes professional practice). Accumulation of UCAS tariff points totaling 104-120, which can be achieved through a combination of GCE A levels, BTEC Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diplomas, or similar qualifications. A preference for GCSE Mathematics and English Language with a grade of 4 or above.  

Career Options

  • Successful completion of this course will provide you with the necessary qualifications to apply for full membership of the ISTD and start a career as a fully certified dance teacher in the private sector
  • Another option available to you is to continue your higher education by progressing to the third year of the BA Dance program at the University of Chichester
