4 Years On Campus Joint-bachelors Program
If you’re excited about world politics and want to add an international edge with fluent French, this degree is a perfect match. You’ll study how governments, institutions, and global systems work while also immersing yourself in French language and culture—plus, you get the chance to spend a year abroad in a French-speaking country.
Curriculum Structure
Year One
Your first year is all about laying the foundations. In politics, you’ll take modules like Introduction to Politics and World Politics to understand how states, systems, and global issues fit together. Alongside this, you’ll strengthen your French through both language classes and cultural studies—helping you move beyond grammar into real communication and context.
Year Two
Now the course becomes more flexible. You’ll choose from a range of politics modules such as European Union Policy-Making or Globalisation while also diving deeper into French with options like French Presidents and the Media or Colonial Memory. If you’d like, this is also when you can head abroad for a placement or study exchange.
Year Three
Most students spend this year abroad in a French-speaking country. It’s an incredible opportunity to live the language, experience another culture firsthand, and build independence. Whether you study at a partner university or take up a work placement, this year is often the highlight of the degree.
Year Four
Back at Warwick, you’ll bring everything together. You’ll take advanced modules in both politics and French, and you can even shift the balance more towards one side if that’s where your interests lie. This is your chance to specialise—whether that’s in international security, political theory, or French literature and cinema—while preparing for life after graduation.
Focus Areas
Political theory, global politics, international relations, French language and culture, Francophone society, and research skills.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the degree, you’ll be confident analysing political systems and global issues, fluent in French, and comfortable working across cultures. You’ll also graduate with strong research and communication skills that are valued worldwide.
Professional Alignment
The course is designed with real careers in mind—whether that’s diplomacy, government, journalism, NGOs, or international business. Your year abroad gives you practical international experience, and Warwick’s Careers Service connects you with employers who actively recruit Warwick graduates.
