Program Overview

A 7 year D.M.D. / Ph.D. combined degree program is available for highly motivated students. The DMD portion follows the conventional curriculum but is spread out over a longer period to allow ample time for research. The PhD portion is in Interdisciplinary Studies. Didactic instruction, therefore, is the responsibility of multiple units, typically the Department of Oral Immunology and Infectious Diseases; and Departments of Biochemistry; Microbiology and Immunology; and Anatomy. While PhD research topics are broad, most candidates will rely on the mentorship of faculty from the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases or the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Craniofacial Biology.
