This program replaces the Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) from 2018 - a change sought by the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) in response to government requirements. Accelerated over 1.5 years, this degree will enable students to apply for teacher registration six months earlier than graduates from other universities.

As part of the Australian Institute for Teaching and Leadership (AITSL) revised Standards and Procedures (2015), applicants to initial teacher education programs (pre-service teachers) must satisfy both academic and non-academic entry requirements for selection to this program.
