Have you been gravitating toward teaching for a while, but aren t sure about the next step Using your existing degree as an introduction, the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Newcastle is a two year program, producing highly competent and fully qualified graduates ready to enter a rewarding career as a secondary teacher.Throughout the program you will examine the key concepts and theories from educational philosophy, psychology and sociology as they relate to teaching and learning, explore language as a social practice, the principles and practice of quality teaching, the use and conduct of educational research, the integration of new technologies into learning and curriculum essentials for the discipline/s you are preparing to teach. To effectively prepare you for the job you will undertake 60 days formal professional experience in school settings, and have many opportunities for ongoing involvement with our partner schools.

As a student of Secondary Teaching you will gain advanced skills in effective unit and lesson planning, assessment and reporting. Emphasis is placed on enhanced communication skills to ensure effective classroom communication, the practice of reflective teaching and the desire to continually improve professional knowledge and practice.
