Do you have a deep interest in the workings of language The Master of Applied Linguistics at UNSW is a professionally relevant Masters degree for students intrigued by the complex relationship between structural and functional elements of language and its social, cognitive and cultural manifestations. The postgraduate linguistics courses also provide a base for a variety of practical applications including the teaching and learning of foreign languages, interpreting and translation, and providing linguistic support for professions such as law and medicine. Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average (65%), TOEFL ibT 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening and speaking), PTE of 64 overall (min. 54 in each subtest), Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of C+ and a minimum grade of C in the writing component, CAE 176 overall (min.169 in each subtest), CPE 180 overall (min.180 in each subtest), ANU College Access Program Successful completion with a minimum of 70% overall, Grade C+ or 70% in English

The Master of Applied Linguistics is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to understand the processes of language learning and development, to develop theoretically motivated language teaching curricula, and to improve their effectiveness as teachers of English as a second or foreign language, or more generally to further their understanding of the way in which language affects and is affected by the social and cultural environment. The program combines theoretical perspectives with empirical studies and practical applications, and provides the opportunity for practical experience of classroom and individual teaching.
