The Master of Forests is ideal for students who want to build the knowledge and practical skills needed to manage forests responsibly and address today’s environmental challenges. Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Students begin by developing an understanding of research and natural resource systems through Partnership Research for Agricultural and Natural Resource-Based Development. They also explore subjects such as Environmental Governance and research methods, helping them understand how forests are connected to environmental policy, communities and wider sustainability issues.

Students can customise their studies with courses from Forests, Environment and Development, and Science Communication. This flexibility allows them to explore areas such as conservation, natural resource management, environmental policy and sustainable development according to their interests.

Year 2

In the second year, students complete the Forests Research Essay, giving them the opportunity to investigate a forest-related topic and develop their research and communication skills. They also study Applied Research and Professional Practice, which helps them connect academic knowledge with real-world forest and environmental work.

Additional advanced courses and ANU electives allow students to further develop expertise relevant to their career goals. Students interested in a more research-intensive pathway may also have the opportunity to transfer to the Master of Forests (Advanced), subject to the required academic performance and supervisor approval.
