Program Overview

The Master of Public Health (Extension) at UNSW is a 1.7-year full-time postgraduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and research skills in public health. It extends the standard Master of Public Health with additional study and an advanced research component, preparing graduates for population health practice, policy and research.

Curriculum Structure:

Year 1: Covers Health Promotion and Social Perspectives of Health, Foundations in Public Health and Health Care Systems, Foundations of Epidemiology and Foundations of Biostatistics, together with elective courses.

Year 2: Completes additional elective study and the extension component, including further research methodology courses and/or an advanced public health research project.

Focus Areas: Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Promotion, Social Determinants of Health, Population Health Research, Health Program Design and Evaluation, Health Policy and Health Economic Evaluation.

Learning Outcomes: Graduates will develop advanced skills to analyse population health issues, apply epidemiological and biostatistical methods, evaluate health programs, conduct public health research and contribute to evidence-based policy and practice.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation): The program provides core competencies provisionally recognised for individuals wishing to apply for Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) Fellowship.
