Based on the curriculum of the private teacher education programme Islamische Religion an Pflichtschulen (Islamic religious education at compulsory schools), students of the master s programme in Islamic Religious Education familiarise themselves with the following subject areas: intensive exegetical discussion of specific texts of the Qur an and Sunnah that serve the objectives of the degree programme; theories and models in education and Islamic religious education; academic research, including gender-specific issues; history and development of traditions and positions in Islamic studies, in particular those that affect the life of Muslims as citizens in a democratic society.
