Program Overview

The overall objective of the training programme is to enable students to work as preventive medicine specialists in youth health care (youth health care physician) to help promote, monitor and maintain the health, growth and development of youths.Upon completion of the course of studies, graduate students are to have:a due knowledge of prevailing thinking models, the organisation and structure of health care, welfare services and education in general, and of the preventive care for youths in particular; a due knowledge of the relevant developments in a medical-ethical, legal and ethical sense; a due knowledge of the growth, development and state of health (physical, mental and social) of youths, and of the factors impacting thereon; a due knowledge of the concepts of normality and normal range of variance, and the skills required to work with probabilities and programmed detection techniques; a due knowledge of the methods of problem definition and of available remedial options; a due knowledge of the methods of management and the skills to apply said methods in preventive services; a know-how of implementation strategies, and the relevant application skills with regard to vaccination policies for example.
