The fact that biochemistry in the broadest sense forms the basis for developments in biotechnology and the 'genetic modifications' is evident. However, the domain is very broad on a theoretical and technical level, making specialization necessary. The training immediately links up with the most recent developments in molecular cell biology, genome and proteome analysis and bioinformatics, applied to humans, animals, plants, bacteria, viruses etc. In addition to thorough theoretical training, you also get a solid practical training both in the laboratory as on the computer.

Should have academic bachelor of biochemistry and biotechnology, biomedical sciences, biology, bio-engineering sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, medicine and veterinary medicine; NL: bachelor biomedical sciences, biology, veterinary sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, medicine, bio-pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, Holders of a diploma of academic bachelor of biology obtained at the UHasselt have direct access to the master of biochemistry and biotechnology provided they have successfully completed certain programme components in their bachelor programme ,a color copy of a valid passport or identity card, a curriculum vitae, a motivation letter, a color copy of an original degree certificate with a translation in Dutch, French, German or English if the degree is drawn up in another language, a copy of the original academic transcripts and course descriptions with a translation in Dutch, French, German or English if they are drawn up in another language, for admission in Dutch programmes: a Dutch language certificate indicating the level or the acceptance letter of a registration in a Dutch language course or test, for admission in English programmes: an English language certificate indicating the level.
