Program Overview

The MA program includes two options: 1) courses and comprehensive exam, and 2) courses and thesis. It can normally be completed in one year of full-time study. The cultural and linguistic knowledge acquired in German studies at the graduate level prepares students for employment, further study, or both. Those students interested in careers in teaching are encouraged to participate in Memorial's Teaching Skills Enhancement Program.

Additional Information & Requirements

Bachelor's degree (minimum second class honours) in German; in addition, candidates must have acquired a superior knowledge of the spoken and written language, and may be asked to take advanced undergraduate courses. IELTS: A minimum overall band score of 6.5, with at least a band 6 in reading and writing. TOEFL: A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test, or 79 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT) with a minimum score of 20 in reading and writing, and not less than 17 in listening and speaking.
