Approaching these questions with advanced research, analytical, and methodological skills, HUMA students work with faculty to investigate the role cultural structures, practices, and values play in the production, reception, and analysis of texts. For example, alongside their exploration of how personal and social identities are formed and limited with reference to such factors as gender, race, disability, biology, technology, environment, religion, and nation, HUMA students also respond to environmental questions from a humanities perspective, engaging with topics such as human and non-human histories, the cultural meanings of environmental debate, and the relationship of arts and literature to the environment.

Minimum of B+ standing in a four-year humanities degree, or equivalent, minimum of B+ standing in a qualifying year program after a general (three-year) B.A. in a humanities subject, Three Reference Forms, 500-word (minimum) statement of purpose, A sustained piece of upper year university writing, by the applicant, Official Academic Transcript(s) from all post secondary studies, English Proficiency Requirement: TOFEL-minimum score: 230 computer-based, 88 Internet-based; IELTS Academic-6.5 minimum overall for direct academic entry with no band score lower than 6; MELAB-minimum score: 80; CAE-C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a Cambridge English Score of 176 or more; Three years of full time senior-level studies in an English-language secondary school or post-secondary institution, French Proficiency Requirement: Three years of full-time study in a high school or post-secondary institution where French is the language of instruction, minimum grade of B-2 (intermediate-advanced)-TCF, minimum score of 14/20 (B2) at the written component-TEF, minimum score of 750 (out of 990)-TFI, official transcripts or foreign transcripts and diplomas assessed by World Education Services
