2 Years On Campus Masters Program

Masaryk University

Program Overview

The goal of studying the musicology program in the master's degree is the multifaceted development of knowledge, skills and methodological knowledge in the field of musicology. It is characterized by a wide range of topics that it deals with, as well as a high variety of methods by which it achieves the fulfillment of set goals. In addition to the issues of music history (dedicated to, among other things, the areas of historical development of musical cultures, national and compositional schools, the life and work of individual composers, changes in interpretation practice, etc.) and historiography, the master's degree pays increased attention to methodology and subjects of systematic musicology. These are primarily musical aesthetics, theory and philosophy, selected problems of musical paleography (characteristics, qualification and classification of various notational systems), musical sociology and psychology, musical organology and its related disciplines, including musical iconography. Language skills are also important (in addition to English, also Latin and German).
